WORKSHOP ON HISTOLOGY, CYTOLOGY AND EMBRYOLOGY - 2016

PREFACE

This workshop on Histology, Cytology and Embryology is designed as a study guide for students of higher medical educational institutions. The primary objective set by the authors of this manual is to assist students in mastering The Study of histological Tissue and organ specimens during Practical Classes.

The workshop consists of six sections. The first section introduces students to the fundamentals of histological techniques, The Structure of the Microscope, and the rules for operating it. This part also provides general recommendations for examining histological slides.

The second section is devoted to cytology. It includes illustrations of micropreparations of PLANT AND ANIMAL Cells along with descriptions of their general Morphology, Organelles, inclusions, and reproduction.

The third section presents illustrations depicting the MAIN STAGES OF embryonic development in animals and humans.

The fourth section contains descriptions of micropreparations that explain the microscopic structure of Tissues—epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous.

The fifth section ("Special Histology") is the largest and comprehensively covers the STRUCTURE OF THE body's Organs and systems. The illustrations are arranged according to a generally accepted outline and include the essential specimens required to assimilate the theoretical and practical material of the course.

In the sixth section, the authors outline the fundamental principles of Differential Diagnosis to help students identify organs or tissues on histological slides.

The list of micropreparations is compiled in accordance with the Curriculum in Histology, Cytology, and Embryology for students of higher medical educational institutions of the III-IV accreditation levels (Kyiv, 2013). The TERMINOLOGY USED IN the manual complies with the International Histological Terminology (2008) (*Histological Terminology: International Terms for Human Cytology and Histology - Terminologia Histologica. The workshop includes drawings of histological specimens prepared in various laboratories. Some of the illustrations are adopted from foreign literature, a list of which is provided. The drawings were created by O. I. Paliushok, to whom the authors express their sincere gratitude.
