Adrenal Medullary Hormones
Pathophysiology of the Adrenal Medulla
Pheochromocytomas are tumors of The adrenal medulla that often remain undiagnosed until they begin producing and secreting epinephrine and norepinephrine in quantities sufficient to trigger severe hypertensive crisis. In pheochromocytoma, the norepinephrine-to-epinephrine ratio is frequently elevated. This may well account for the variations in Clinical presentation, given that norepinephrine is considered to play the primary role in the Pathogenesis of Hypertension, whereas epinephrine is held responsible for hypermetabolism.
