They occur most frequently in individuals engaged in heavy labor (miners, drivers, loaders), whose work involves frequent overexertion, hypothermia, etc. The disease manifests as osteochondrosis (most commonly of the cervical and lumbar spine) accompanied by symptoms of secondary radiculitis, radiculoneuritis, or polyradiculoneuritis.

Clinical manifestations are dominated by spinal pain that radiates to the extremities, caused by nerve tension and aggravated by movement. Sometimes it girdles the patient, thus presenting as intercostal neuralgia.

Radiographs reveal signs of Spinal osteochondrosis, spondylosis, and spondyloarthrosis, occasionally accompanied by antalgic Scoliosis.

Patients require inpatient Treatment (sometimes surgical), reassignment to lighter work, or, if continued employment is impossible, the determination of a disability status.
