2.12. Practical Work. Study of Qualitative Reactions for Hormones

Objective: to learn how to perform Qualitative reactions for Hormones.

Hormones are biologically active organic substances produced by Endocrine glands (thyroid, Parathyroid glands, Adrenal Glands, Pancreas, Gonads, Pituitary Gland, Pineal Gland, and Hypothalamus). The activity of the endocrine glands is controlled by the Central Nervous system.

According to their chemical nature, hormones are classified into polypeptide and protein hormones, Amino Acid Derivatives, and Steroid Hormones. The first group includes Hormones of the parathyroid glands, as well as the anterior, posterior, and intermediate lobes of the pituitary gland, and the pancreas. Amino acid derivatives include hormones of The adrenal medulla, Thyroid Gland, and pineal gland. The third group comprises hormones of the adrenal cortex and gonads.
