Sphaerosomes
Cells of fat-storing Tissues (such as sunflower and castor bean) contain sphaerosomes. They have a spherical or flattened shape with a diameter of 0.4-3 µm. Sphaerosomes are bounded by a single membrane enclosing a matrix. They originate from The Endoplasmic reticulum by budding off as vesicles. The matrix contains Enzymes that synthesize fats from substances entering the sphaerosome from the Cytoplasm. As fats accumulate, they gradually fill the sphaerosome. They are formed during seed development. The Lipids synthesized and stored within them are utilized during seed germination to support ROOT and SHOOT growth until they achieve an adequate level of Photosynthesis.
