Abdominal cavity — Topography of the stomach
The Stomach is located in the upper Abdominal cavity. It is bordered: superiorly by the Inferior surface of the left lobe of The Liver and the left dome of the Diaphragm; inferiorly by the Peritoneum, the gastric surface of the Spleen, the transverse colon, and its mesentery; anteriorly by the left lobe of the liver and the anterior abdominal wall.
Holotopy. The stomach projects into the epigastric and partially into the umbilical region of the anterior abdominal wall. The greater part of it lies to the left, and the smaller part to the right of the midline. The axis of the stomach runs from above, left, and back downwards, to the right and front. The cardia projects onto the anterior abdominal wall within the left VII costal Cartilage, while the fundus corresponds to the area on the anterior thoracic wall between the left V and VII costal cartilages. The curvatura ventriculi minor is located at the level of the xiphoid process, and the curvatura ventriculi major projects onto the anterior abdominal wall midway between the xiphoid process and the umbilicus.
Skeletotopy (Fig. 226). The cardiac orifice of the stomach is located to the left of THE Vertebral Column behind the left VII costal cartilage and projects at the level of the XI thoracic vertebra, whereas the pyloric part projects at the level of the XII thoracic or I lumbar vertebra. The Cytology/practical/108.html">Fundus of the stomach lies within the dome of the diaphragm to the left of the vertebral column at the level of the X-XI thoracic vertebrae. The lesser curvature is situated at the level of the XII thoracic vertebra, while THE POSITION OF the greater curvature depends on the Filling of the stomach.

Syntopy. Anterior and posterior to the stomach are peritoneal recesses (bursae): anteriorly lies the pre-gastric bursa, bursa pregastrica, and posteriorly the omental bursa, bursa omentalis. The anterior wall of the stomach is adjacent to the diaphragm, the anterior abdominal wall, and the inferior surface of the liver. The posterior wall of the stomach is adjacent to the aorta, Pancreas, spleen, upper pole of the right Kidney, left suprarenal gland, and partially to the diaphragm and transverse colon (Fig. 227).
