The psychiatry curriculum for dental students covers the Etiology, Pathogenesis, and Clinical Features of mental disorders, as well as psychiatric complications in somatic diseases, while teaching diagnostic and Treatment skills. Stomatology departments allocate considerably less time to psychiatry than general medical faculties do. Nonetheless, within this short timeframe, students must familiarize themselves with general and clinical psychiatry, master the Diagnosis of common psychiatric symptoms and syndromes, and acquire basic treatment skills.

Naturally, a textbook for dental students differs from psychiatric textbooks designed for medical students. Drawing on years of experience teaching psychiatry to dental students, and in accordance with the curriculum, we have streamlined the volume of material, made its presentation more specific, and aligned the content with modern standards of knowledge. The authors examine the fundamentals of clinical mental disorders, their pathogenesis, treatment Methods, and Prevention, incorporating the latest achievements in psychiatry and related disciplines.

From the full spectrum of mental disorders, we selected the most crucial conditions that are essential for the practical work of a dentist and The Development of their clinical perspective.

In daily practice, dentists frequently encounter various mental disorders, and a solid understanding of these conditions requires adequate training in psychiatry. General Psychiatry topics in this textbook are integrated with medical psychology, enabling dental students to develop a clinical grasp of pathological processes and make accurate diagnoses.

Special emphasis in the general psychopathology section is placed on The Role of negative emotions in the development of dysmorphophobic syndrome in individuals with various facial defects, halitosis, and similar conditions, as dentists frequently encounter these clinical manifestations.

General psychiatry issues are presented in conjunction with medical psychology. The textbook includes essential information on mental hygiene, psychological prevention, and the psychotherapy of mental disorders.

The section on clinical psychiatry examines the most prevalent mental illnesses, providing general knowledge required by practitioners across all specialties. Particular attention is devoted to character development anomalies and mental reactions in individuals with congenital and acquired defects of the face and jaws. The course and development of dysmorphomanic syndrome in Schizophrenia are discussed in detail. These topics are insufficiently covered in existing psychiatric textbooks, yet such knowledge is indispensable for dentists.

Studying the psychological reactions of individuals with various defects of the face, jaws, dental arches, and bite—particularly the dynamics of their development and the stages of emerging personality changes—represents a novel and largely unexplored field at the intersection of medical psychology and psychiatry. Enhancing dentists' proficiency in psychiatry will facilitate early, accurate diagnoses and the timely provision of necessary treatment.

As a Supplement to the textbook, an explanatory dictionary of psychiatric terms is provided.
