Muscles and Fascia of the Head
Regions of the Face
The orbital region (regio orbitalis) is a paired area corresponding to the BOUNDARIES OF THE eye socket. It is bounded superiorly by the orbital part of the Frontal bone, medially by the frontal process of the body of the Maxilla, laterally by the zygomatic process of the frontal bone, and inferiorly by the orbital surface of the maxilla and part of the zygomatic arch.
The nasal region (regio nasalis) is unpaired. It is bounded superiorly by the glabella, inferiorly by a horizontal line drawn on the Skin through the lower edge of the nasal septum, and on both sides by the nasolabial and nasomaxillary folds.
The oral region (regio oralis) is unpaired and is bounded superiorly by the lower edge of the nasal region, inferiorly by the mentolabial sulcus, and on both sides by the nasolabial folds.
The mental region (regio mentalis) is unpaired, bounded superiorly by the mentolabial sulcus, and inferiorly and laterally by an arcuate line drawn above the lower border of the Mandible.
The infraorbital region (regio infraorbitalis) is a paired area located lateral to the nasal region and inferior to the orbital one. It is bounded superiorly by the infraorbital margin, laterally by the zygomatic region, and inferiorly by a line drawn through the lower margins of the body of the Zygomatic bone and the External Nose.
The buccal region (regio buccalis) is a paired area bounded superiorly by the lower edge of the infraorbital region, inferiorly and posteriorly by the Base of the mandible, and anteriorly by the nasolabial fold.
The zygomatic region (regio zygomatica) is a paired area corresponding to the contours of the body of the zygomatic bone.
