System of the cardiac veins

Venous Blood from all Organs and Tissues is collected into the systemic Veins. The systemic Venous system consists of three parts: 1) the cardiac veins; 2) the SUPERIOR VENA CAVA system; and 3) the INFERIOR VENA CAVA system, which receives the portal vein, the largest visceral vein in The Human Body.

Venous blood from The Heart's own veins drains directly into the right atrium, bypassing the venae cavae. Converging together, the cardiac veins (Fig. 93) form the coronary sinus, which lies on the posterior surface of the heart within the coronary sulcus and opens into the right atrium through a wide orifice 10–12 mm in diameter, guarded by a semilunar valve (see “Blood supply and Innervation of the Heart”).
