Vessels of the Pulmonary Circulation
Veins

Following gas exchange between the Blood in the capillaries and the air in the alveoli, the oxygen-rich blood passes into venules located within the interlobular Connective Tissue and the walls of the Bronchi. At the apices of the pulmonary segments, the venules converge to form veins. Near the hilum of each lung, these veins merge into the Pulmonary veins, which exit the hila and empty into the left atrium (see Atlas).

They carry arterial blood from the Lungs and constitute a part of the lesser, or pulmonary, Circulation. Valves are absent within the lumen of the pulmonary veins.
