Special Part
Urinary System, systema urinarium - General Overview
Urinary Organs - Male Urethra - Topography of the Male Urethra
The male Urethra is located within the lesser pelvis and the spongy body of the Penis. The prostatic part of the urethra is surrounded on all sides by the Prostate Gland. The membranous part passes through the urogenital Diaphragm. The Bulbourethral gland, gl. bulbourethralis (Cowperi), lies adjacent to its posterior surface.
X-ray Anatomy of the male urethra. When filled with a contrast medium, the urethra appears as a tube showing several narrowings.
The Blood supply to the male urethra is provided by Branches of the inferior vesical Arteries, the Arteries of the bulb of the penis, and the urethral arteries. The Veins OF THE canal form a venous plexus. Venous drainage is directed into the vesical and perineal veins.
Lymphatic drainage from the prostatic and membranous PARTS OF THE canal occurs into the internal iliac Lymph Nodes, while drainage from the spongy part goes into the inguinal lymph nodes.
The Innervation of the male urethra is supplied by branches of nn. perinei and n. dorsalis penis, as well as the plexus prostaticus.
