Nucleic Acids

Nucleic acids are high-molecular-weight Organic compounds, Biopolymers whose monomers are NUCLEOTIDES. Nucleic acids were first isolated from animal Cells in 1869 by the Swiss biochemist F. Miescher (1844–1895). They are found in All living organisms and perform unique biological Functions associated with the storage, expression, and transmission of hereditary information across generations. There are two Types of Nucleic acids: deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and Ribonucleic Acids (RNA). Both nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) are present in prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells, whereas Viruses contain only one of them (either DNA or RNA).
