Storage Parenchyma

It is represented by living parenchymal Cells with large pits in their Cell walls. They store solid substances (starch grains, aleurone protein grains), liquids (oils), and soluble compounds (sugars, Amino Acids, organic acids). In annual plants, reserve substances are concentrated mainly in seeds and fruits, while in perennial plants, they are additionally found in roots, stems, leaves, modified roots (ROOT crops, root tubers), and shoots (rhizomes, tubers, bulbs). These reserve substances fuel the resumption of Plant GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT in spring. The Abundance of storage Tissues in various plant Organs is an essential diagnostic feature in the microscopic analysis of medicinal raw Materials. For instance, the endosperm and cotyledon cells of flax seeds contain oil and aleurone protein grains, whereas the endosperm cells of anise and fennel fruits contain oil, aleurone grains, and calcium oxalate druses.
