Central lung cancer

The specimen shows a greyish tumor node with indistinct margins. According to the Classification of lung cancer, it is divided into: ROOT (central) cancer, originating from the main or initial part of a segmental bronchus. Based on the growth pattern, it is classified as exophytic (endobronchial) and endophytic (exo- and peribronchial). Macroscopically, lung cancer can present as: massive or nodular, polypoid, branching, Pancoast tumor, or Pneumonia-like. This particular specimen demonstrates the nodular form of lung cancer.
