Bullous upper lobe emphysema of the Lungs

Pulmonary emphysema is a condition characterized by an abnormal increase in the air content of the lungs and enlargement of their volume. Bullous emphysema is not a distinct type of emphysema, but rather a term indicating the presence of bullae greater than 10 mm in diameter. Bullae can occur in all four MAIN TYPES OF emphysema. They frequently rupture, leading to Spontaneous pneumothorax. Bullae are most commonly located subpleurally in the lung apices.
