Age-Related Features of the Organ of Vision
The Eyeball of a newborn is relatively large, with an anteroposterior diameter of 17.5 mm and a weight of 2.3 g. The visual axis of the newborn's eyeball is positioned more laterally than in adults. The eyeball grows more rapidly During the first year of life than in subsequent years. By the age of 5, the weight of the eyeball increases by 70%, and by the age of 20–25, it increases threefold compared to that of a newborn.
The cornea in a newborn is relatively thick, and its curvature remains nearly unchanged throughout life.
