Cell Receptors

Specialized structures known as receptors are located on The Cell surface to perceive stimuli. These receptors may consist of plasma Membrane Proteins or Components of the glycocalyx (Polysaccharides, Glycoproteins). Receptors are characterized by high Specificity. Some of them bind to BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE SUBSTANCES, such as Hormones, and transmit signals inside the cell, which activates the corresponding enzymatic process. Other receptors respond to chemical agents, including pharmacological drugs. Antigen-reactive receptors interact with Antibodies or immune Cells. Additionally, there are receptors that perceive physical stimuli.
