Slide 105. Pyloric part of the stomach.

Staining: hematoxylin and eosin.

Magnification: x80.

The slide represents a vertical section of the wall of the pyloric region of The Stomach. The gastric pits (1) here are significantly wider than in the Cytology/practical/108.html">Fundus of the stomach. They are lined, as in the fundus, with a simple columnar secretory epithelium (2). The epithelial Cells feature clear Cytoplasm. The lamina propria of the mucous membrane (3) is more developed compared to the fundus. The pyloric glands (4) are more sparsely distributed, and their terminal portions are usually arranged in groups. The lumens of the terminal portions are wider than those of the fundic glands. The Cells of the terminal portions (5) possess a flattened Nucleus near the base and weakly basophilic cytoplasm. The ducts of the pyloric glands are unbranched and open into the bottom of the gastric pits. The muscularis mucosae (6) is located beneath the lamina propria. Next is the submucosa (7), consisting of loose Connective Tissue.

The muscular layer consists of three layers of smooth Muscle with connective tissue layers.

The serous membrane has a typical Structure.
