4.5.3. Diffuse Neuroendocrine System

There are two types of cellular elements in the diffuse Endocrine System. The first comprises Cells derived from neural crest neuroblasts that retain The ability to synthesize neuroamines, combining it with The production of oligopeptide Hormones. These are grouped together as APUD cells (Amine Precursor Uptake and Decarboxylation).

Neuroendocrine Cells of the APUD group are found in the Brain and various other Organs, both endocrine and non-endocrine.
