Decarboxylation of Amino Acids
Introduction
Many years ago, it was established that some amines are among the products formed during bacterial growth. For instance, putrescine, cadaverine, tyramine, and y-aminobutyric acid were isolated from the growth products of Bacteria on media containing Ornithine, Lysine, Tyrosine, or glutamic acid, respectively [192—195]. Further research demonstrated that specific Enzymes present in certain animal and plant Tissues, as well as in microorganisms, catalyze the Decarboxylation of amino Acids According to the equation:

It is now established that many Amino Acids undergo enzymatic decarboxylation, and some of the specific Decarboxylases have been obtained in purified form [196—199].
