The Scope of Biochemistry

The main objective of biochemistry is to achieve a complete molecular-level understanding of The Nature of all chemical processes associated with cellular life activity.

A prime example is the extensive research aimed at elucidating the Molecular Basis of Muscle contraction and A number of related processes. As a result, many compounds of varying degrees of complexity have been isolated in purified form, and detailed Structural and functional studies have been conducted. Ultimately, this has shed light on several aspects of the molecular mechanisms underlying muscle contraction.

Another objective of biochemistry is to elucidate THE ORIGIN OF life. Our current understanding of this fascinating process is far from complete.
