Golgi bodies - secretory organelles

Almost all Eukaryotic Cells contain characteristic clusters of membrane-enclosed vesicles known as Golgi bodies (Fig. 2-13). They are named after the Italian cytologist Camillo Golgi, who first described these structures in the late 19th century. While Golgi bodies vary in shape across Different types of eukaryotic cells, their most characteristic form is a stack-like Structure composed of flattened vesicles, each bounded by a single membrane. Much smaller spherical vesicles bud off from the edges of these larger vesicles.

Various cellular products arrive at the Golgi bodies from The Endoplasmic reticulum, where they are packaged into secretory vesicles that subsequently migrate to Cell/30.html">The Plasma Membrane and fuse with it. These membrane-fused vesicles may then rupture, releasing their contents into the extracellular space. This process, known as exocytosis, is frequently utilized to transport completed Cell wall components from The Cell interior, where they are synthesized, to the exterior, where they are incorporated into the growing cell wall.
