The Ovary, ovarium, is a paired reproductive gland, appearing as a flattened oval body with an average length of 2.5 cm (Fig. 326). The ovary has two surfaces: the medial surface, facies medialis, and the lateral surface, facies lateralis; between them lie two borders: the posterior free border, margo liber, and the anterior border attached to the mesentery, margo mesovaricus; as well as two extremities: the lower uterine extremity, extremitas uterina, connected to the ovarian ligament, and the upper tubal extremity, extremitas tubaria, facing the fimbriae of the Uterine tube. Attached to it are one of the fimbriae and the suspensory ligament of the ovary, lig. suspensorium ovarii. The hilum of the ovary, hilum ovarii, where Blood Vessels and nerves enter, is located on the mesenterial border. The ovary is attached by a short mesentery, mesovarium, to the posterior leaf of the broad ligament of the Uterus.
