The Bulbourethral gland, gl. bulbourethralis, is a paired pea-sized organ (see Fig. 316). It is located within the urogenital Diaphragm near the posterior end of the bulb of the Penis. Its excretory duct, 3-4 cm in length, empties into the spongy part of the Urethra. Structurally, the gland is tubuloalveolar. It secretes an alkaline fluid that neutralizes residual acidity in the urethra.
Blood supply to the bulbourethral gland is provided by Branches of the internal pudendal artery (a. pudenda interna). Venous drainage is carried out by the internal pudendal vein (v. pudenda interna).
The Lymphatic vessels of the gland drain into the internal iliac Lymph Nodes.
Innervation is provided by the pudendal nerve (n. pudendus) and branches of the pelvic nerve plexus.
