Introduction

The gastrointestinal tract secretes a multitude of Hormones, likely more than any other single organ. The gastrointestinal tract is designed to propel food to Digestion sites, create an appropriate environment (Enzymes, pH, salts, etc.) for the digestive process, transport digested products through mucosal Cells into the extracellular space, deliver these products via the bloodstream to distant cells, and eliminate waste. Gastrointestinal Hormones play an essential role in carrying out all these Functions.
