Gluconeogenesis - Introduction

Gluconeogenesis encompasses all the mechanisms and pathways that ensure the Synthesis of glucose and Glycogen from non-carbohydrate precursors. The main substrates for gluconeogenesis are glucogenic Amino Acids, lactate, glycerol, and (in ruminants) propionate. Gluconeogenesis occurs primarily in The Liver and Kidneys, as these Organs contain the complete set of required Enzymes.
