In addition to CARBOHYDRATES, microorganisms are capable of assimilating a wide range of organic carbon substrates, including reduced C1-compounds (methane, methanol), C2-compounds (ethanol, acetate), organic acids, Amino Acids, aliphatic Hydrocarbons, Aromatic Compounds, and others. It should be noted that Pseudomonas putida can utilize any of 200 different organic substances as its sole source of carbon and energy.
