Fundamentals of Molecular Biology - V.I. Rezyapkin 2009
Introduction
Molecular biology is currently a rapidly developing science. Its history began with the Discovery of the DNA double helix by Watson and Crick. Since then, numerous monumental discoveries have been made in this field, allowing us today to manipulate genetic material.
By studying the fundamental questions of genetic material Organization, as well as the storage, transmission, and expression of Genetic information, molecular biology has established core concepts regarding the functioning of the genetic apparatus in living organisms. The field boasts significant achievements not only in theory, but also in Structure/179.html">Practical Applications. These include The Development of diagnostic Methods for genetic and infectious diseases, human identification, and the Introduction/32.html">Genetic Engineering OF prokaryotes, plants, and animals. Great expectations are pinned on the development and future clinical application of Gene Therapy. Promising results already achieved in this area provide an optimistic outlook for the future.
All of the above highlights the immense significance of molecular biology for humanity and explains the ever-growing interest in this discipline.
This study guide has been prepared in accordance with the curriculum for the course “Molecular Biology” intended for students majoring in 1-310101-02 “Biology” and 1-330101 “Bioecology”.
