Purulent Pyelonephritis
The Kidneys are enlarged, edematous, and hyperemic. The pelvicalyceal cavities are dilated and filled with turbid urine or pus; the mucous membrane is dull with hemorrhages. On cross-section, the Kidney appears mottled, with grayish-yellow areas surrounded by a hyperemic zone and hemorrhages, accompanied by small abscesses. Miliary abscesses and hemorrhages frequently develop. Epithelial dystrophy of the renal tubules occurs, with their lumens containing casts composed of desquamated epithelium and leukocytes.
