The disease is named after the author who described flexion contractures of the toes caused by Changes in the aponeurosis plantaris—that is, changes in the plantar aponeurosis analogous to those seen in Dupuytren's Contracture of the hand.

The Pathogenesis and clinical course of this condition are also similar; it may be unilateral or bilateral. Upon examination, the FOOT presents a typical deformity characterized by flexion of the toes, particularly their distal Phalanges. Active extension of the toes is impossible for the patient, and passive straightening is likewise unsuccessful. A deepened transverse groove is visible on the sole, and Palpation reveals a tense, rigid plantar aponeurosis. In advanced cases, callosities appear in atypical areas of the sole, along with Skin hardening in the distal part. These changes are interpreted as neurodystrophic, as they frequently coincide with the algodystrophic syndrome of the lower extremity.

Treatment is exclusively surgical, involving the excision of the pathologically altered aponeurosis in its middle third across its entire width. Tissue incisions on the weight-bearing areas of the sole should be avoided. Timely surgical intervention is essential to prevent significant impairment of foot function.
