Metabolism and Energy Exchange
Practical Classes
The purpose of the Practical Classes is to determine the basal metabolic rate using tables that account for age, gender, body weight, and height, as well as using Reed's formula (see App. 1, 2, 3); to determine the working increment and the body's daily Energy Expenditure.
Equipment: stadiometer, scales, tables for determining the basal metabolic rate, sphygmomanometer, phonendoscope, stopwatch.
Workflow. The student must know: 1) what assimilation and dissimilation are; 2) The Significance of protein, carbohydrate, lipid, Water, and Mineral METABOLISM; 3) The Role of Vitamins in The Human Body; 4) Energy Production and Expenditure; 5) the definition of basal metabolism.
