Tarsal Bones - Cuneiform Bones

The cuneiform bones, ossa cuneiformia, are divided into the medial, os cuneiforme mediale, intermediate, intermedium, and lateral, laterale (see Fig. 70A). They are located between the navicular bone and the three Metatarsal Bones.

The medial cuneiform bone, os cuneiforme mediale, features articular surfaces for articulation with the intermediate cuneiform bone and the second metatarsal bone. The groove for the tibialis anterior tendon is located on its medial surface.

The intermediate cuneiform bone, os cuneiforme intermedium, has articular surfaces for articulation with the medial and lateral cuneiform bones, and on its lateral side, a surface for articulation with the lateral cuneiform bone.

The lateral cuneiform bone, os cuneiforme laterale, features two articular surfaces: on the medial side, for articulation with the intermediate cuneiform bone and the Base of the second metatarsal bone, and on the lateral side, for articulation with the cuboid bone.
