BODY TEMPERATURE AND ITS REGULATION

1. CHEMICAL THERMOREGULATION

Chemical thermoregulation occurs through changes in heat production driven by environmental factors. The primary source of heat generation within the body is cellular METABOLISM. Oxidation processes take place in Cells and Organs, accompanied by the release of energy. The most intensive heat production occurs in the Muscles. At rest, skeletal muscles generate 20% of the body's heat. Minor physical activity increases heat production by 50-80%, while heavy muscular work raises it by 400-500%. Under cold conditions, heat production in the muscles increases reflexively.

The Liver and Kidneys play a significant role in chemical thermoregulation. At rest, the liver accounts for approximately 20% of total heat production. When the body cools down, heat production in the liver increases.

When ambient Temperature rises, heat production within the body decreases.
