2.4. COLOR PERCEPTION
Color analysis involves both the eye receptors and the Central Nervous system. Color perception is mediated by cones. In twilight, when only rods are active, distinguishing colors becomes difficult.
Color Vision deficiency, or color blindness, is typically an inherited condition affecting about 8% of men and 0.5% of women. There are three MAIN TYPES OF partial color blindness: protanopia, deuteranopia, and tritanopia, each characterized by the inability to perceive one of the three primary colors. Protanopes cannot perceive red, often confusing it with black, dark gray, or brown. Deuteranopes fail to distinguish green from dark red and blue. Tritanopes cannot perceive blue.
Total color blindness, knownachromatopsia, occurs in 0.01% of the population.
