GENUS CRUCIAN CARP (KARAS) CARASSIUS JAROCKI

Body short, deep, and laterally compressed. The dorsal profile behind the HEAD curves rather steeply upward. Body covered with medium-sized scales that are to some extent sculptured. Lateral line running along the middle of the body, well-defined (l. l. 26-37). D III-IV 13-21, rounded at the tip, originating almost on the same vertical line as THE ORIGIN OF V. A II-III 5-8, short. In both D and A, the last unbranched ray bears a more or less developed serration. Caudal fin with a greater or lesser notch. Barbels absent. BONES OF THE Skull roof and sides partially sculptured. Pharyngeal Teeth uniserial, 4-4. Gill rakers relatively long, closely spaced. Skull bones more or less angular and rough. Three species are known.
