Slide 62. Lamellar corpuscle (encapsulated nerve ending of Vater-Pacini).

Staining: hematoxylin and eosin.

The Vater-Pacini corpuscle is the most common sensory encapsulated nerve ending. The lamellar corpuscle (1) is large in size (0.5 - 2.0 mm) and is located in the reticular layer (2) of the dermis. Examine the lamellar corpuscle under low magnification. It appears as a concentric layering of thin lamellae in an oblique, transverse, or less frequently, longitudinal section (perineural capsule). In the center, There is a branching nerve fiber (3) that remains unstained by this method. It is surrounded by an accumulation of modified schwannocytes (4) known as the inner bulb. Further outward lie concentric Connective Tissue lamellae forming the outer bulb (5). Between them, nuclei of Cells of the fibroblastic Lineage can be observed.
