The holocrine secretion type is characterized by the glandular Cell filling with secretion, dying, and being discharged onto the epithelial surface. This is the mode of secretion in Sebaceous Glands of the Skin associated with Hair follicles. In the slide, the sebaceous gland appears as a cluster of large, pale Cells with vacuolated Cytoplasm (1). We can distinguish individual glandular acini (2) and branched excretory ducts (3) that open into the hair infundibulum (4). At the periphery of the acinus, There is a layer of small germinative cells (5) with large, spherical nuclei. As they approach the excretory duct, the cells acquire a polygonal shape, becoming sebocytes. Lipid inclusions accumulate in their cytoplasm.
