Externally, the corpus luteum is round in shape and covered with a Connective Tissue layer (1). Inside the corpus luteum, there are granular Cells – luteocytes (2), which develop through the proliferation of granulosa epithelial cells and the Cells of the internal theca of the mature follicle after ovulation. Luteocytes are surrounded on all sides by capillaries (3) and thin layers of connective tissue (4).
