Subclass Dilleniidae

Woody and herbaceous plants, mostly with simple, less commonly compound leaves, with or without stipules. Flowers of various types, typically with a double perianth; corolla is choripetalous or sympetalous. Gynoecium is usually coenocarpous, less frequently apocarpous; Ovary superior or inferior. Fruits of various types.

This is one of the largest subclasses and, from a phylogenetic standpoint, one of the central groups whose primitive representatives serve as a missing link between Magnoliidae and Rosidae. It encompasses 29 orders and 94 families. In the flora of Ukraine, the subclass is represented by 14 orders, 28 families, 155 genera, and approximately 580 species.
