Chapter 14. LIPID METABOLISM

Lipid METABOLISM comprises enzymatic processes of their catabolic conversion in the Tissues and Cells of organisms, as well as anabolic Reactions Involving the de novo synthesis of molecules of various Lipids and their derivatives, which contribute to the Structure and functioning of cells, tissues, Organs, and the Organism as a whole.

The catabolic transformation of lipids includes the processes of hydrolytic Cleavage in the gastrointestinal tract, transport of Digestion products to tissues, and their assimilation by cells: accumulation and oxidative degradation to generate metabolic energy in the form of ATP molecules and low-molecular-weight precursors for biosynthetic reactions.
