Most Proteins are completely precipitated from aqueous solutions by certain acids. Trichloroacetic and perchloric acids are most commonly used for this purpose. They form Water-insoluble salts with proteins. These acids are widely used to "clarify" biological fluids or Cell extracts prior to the analysis of low-molecular-weight or other non-protein components in mixtures, such as glucose, Amino Acids, Nucleic Acids, CARBOHYDRATES, Lipids, etc.

Tungstic, phosphotungstic, and metaphosphoric acids are also effective protein precipitants. Divalent cations such as Zn and Pb also precipitate proteins efficiently.
