Introduction

All Tissues have a minimum requirement for glucose, but in some of them (such as Brain tissue and erythrocytes), this demand is quite substantial. Glycolysis is the main pathway for glucose utilization and occurs in all Cells. It is a unique pathway because it can utilize oxygen if available (aerobic conditions), yet it can also proceed in the absence of oxygen (anaerobic conditions).
