The Citric Acid Cycle: Catabolism of Acetyl-CoA
Introduction
The Citric Acid Cycle (Krebs cycle, Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle) is a series of reactions occurring in the Cell/35.html">Mitochondria that accomplish the Catabolism of acetyl groups and the liberation of hydrogen equivalents; The oxidation of the latter provides the Free energy of tissue fuel resources. Acetyl groups are present as acetyl-CoA (CH3 — CO~S — CoA, active acetate), a thioester of coenzyme A. CoA contains the vitamin pantothenic acid.
