Phospholipids

Phospholipids are esters of polyhydric alcohols, namely glycerol or sphingosine, with Higher Fatty acids and phosphoric acid. Phospholipids also contain nitrogenous compounds such as Choline, ethanolamine, or Serine. Depending on the polyhydric alcohol involved in The formation of the phospholipid (glycerol or sphingosine), the latter are divided into two groups: Glycerophospholipids and sphingophospholipids. It should be noted that in glycerophospholipids, either choline, ethanolamine, or serine is linked by an ester bond to the phosphoric acid residue; whereas in Sphingolipids, only choline is found. Glycerophospholipids are the most abundant in animal Tissues.
