Calculations in Protein Research
Analysis of Protein Amino Acid Sequences

A specialized program available on the MOLBIOL.RU website will help analyze a protein sequence: calculate its length, empirical formula, molecular weight, isoelectric point, and other parameters. To calculate the Molecular Weight of a labeled protein, the required isotopes must be checked. The «Help» page provides information on the margin of error and the calculation algorithm. Appendix 17 provides some of the most general reference data on Proteins.

Procedure

1. Open the main page of the MOLBIOL.RU website (http://www.molbiol.ru).

2. On the main page, find the «Calculations» section.

3. Select the «Protein Sequence Analysis» tab.

4. Enter the protein sequence of the common viper NADH dehydrogenase into the form (see Practical Work 6.1), select the necessary options, and click «Calculate». The empirical formula and protein length are calculated regardless of the selected options.

5. Analyze a few more suggested proteins.
