Thoracic nerves (nn. thoracici) [Th1-Th12] Fig. 45, 46

— 12 pairs of Spinal Nerves emerge from the vertebral canal, each branching into 4 rami:

— anterior ramus (r. ventralis) s. r. anterior;

— posterior ramus (r. dorsalis) s. r. posterior;

— meningeal ramus (r. meningeus) supplying the spinal Meninges;

— white communicating ramus (r. communicans albus) — preganglionic sympathetic fibers.

Gray communicating rami — postganglionic sympathetic fibers (rr. communicantes grisei) from the Sympathetic trunk ganglia — join the first three rami (see Sympathetic trunk).
