Trochlear nerve

IV (n. trochlearis) (Fig. 32)

The trochlear nerve Nucleus (nuc. n. trochlearis) is somatomotor and is located beneath the ventral wall of the cerebral aqueduct at the level of the inferior colliculi of the lamina tecti. The axons of the somatomotor Neurons from this nucleus decussate to form the trochlear nerve, which emerges laterally from the frenulum of the superior medullary velum. The nerve then courses ventrally around the cerebral peduncle and runs within the lateral wall of the cavernous sinus. Passing through the superior orbital fissure, the nerve enters the Orbit, where it innervates the superior oblique Muscle of the Eyeball.
