Genetic Engineering and Molecular Genetics Methods
The formal birth date of Introduction/32.html">Genetic Engineering can be considered 1972, when Paul Berg and his colleagues obtained the first recombinant DNA consisting of SV40 virus DNA and bacteriophage Ł DNA. The advancement of Recombinant DNA technology and related Methods played a pivotal role in The Development of Molecular Genetics and molecular biology as a whole: the Structure and function of virtually any Gene and its expression products became accessible for research, enabling detailed studies of the vast genomes of higher organisms and their regulatory systems. Today, modern approaches for performing various manipulations with DNA molecules serve not only as the primary toolkit for fundamental research in molecular genetics, but also as the foundation for developing novel biotechnologies based on the genetic modification of microorganisms, plants, and animals as producers of food and biologically active compounds.
