Conclusions

Tuberculosis in Ukraine, as in many countries around the world, is one of the most widespread infectious diseases, having reached epidemic proportions. Globally, tuberculosis claims the lives of far more people than all other infectious and parasitic diseases combined.

According to WHO projections, the number of tuberculosis cases over the decade will reach 90 million, with the majority occurring among men and women aged 20 to 49—that is, during their prime reproductive years. Of these, approximately 30 million may die within the same decade unless There is a fundamental shift in how this issue is addressed.

The rapid surge in tuberculosis incidence in Ukraine in recent years has led to an increasing prevalence of severe, advanced forms of the disease. The tuberculosis challenge is further compounded by the spread of HIV/AIDS and substance abuse among the population, conditions under which tuberculosis is detected 2 to 3 times more frequently than in the general population. Notably, over the past decades, the incidence of tuberculosis has risen significantly among healthcare workers, particularly staff in specialized TB facilities.

Its resolution requires substantial efforts—primarily at the state, public, and healthcare system levels—alongside profound knowledge of phthisiology among physicians of various specialties.

The purpose of this textbook is to highlight key aspects of the etiopathogenesis, Clinical presentation, Diagnosis, Treatment, Prevention of tuberculosis, and the Organization of TB control in modern conditions.
