Large-Focal bronchopneumonia
The specimen shows inflammatory foci of various sizes; they are dense and grayish-red on the cut surface. Depending on the size of the foci, miliary (alveolitis), acinar, lobular, confluent lobular, segmental, and polysegmental bronchopneumonia are distinguished. The alveoli contain an accumulation of exudate with mucus, neutrophils, macrophages, erythrocytes, and desquamated alveolar epithelium; occasionally, a small amount of fibrin is present. The exudate is distributed unevenly. The interalveolar septa are infiltrated by Cells.
